¿En qué currículo y programas se basará la enseñanza de la Escuela Bilingüe de Appleton?
La Escuela Bilingüe de Appleton usará el currículo general del Distrito Escolar de Appleton.
El contenido se presentará tanto en español como en inglés. Sin embargo, lo que se enseñe en un idioma no se traducirá y se volverá a enseñar en el otro idioma. En cambio, las maestras crearán “puentes” de compresión entre el español y el inglés utilizando estrategias comprobadas de enseñanza bilingüe.
El dominio de ambos idiomas se desarrollará de la misma manera en la que se desarrolla nuestra lengua materna- a través de representaciones visuales, gestos, repeticiones corales, canciones y cantos.
Se utilizarán múltiples estrategias que abarcan estilos de aprendizaje y habilidades divergentes, estas incluirán:
Total Physical Response (TPR) Un enfoque de aprendizaje que utiliza gestos y respuestas de lenguaje corporal para ayudar a los alumnos a establecer conexiones con vocabulario desconocido de manera natural.
Language Experience Approach (LEA) Una estrategia de enseñanza que crea experiencias comunes y por ello temas de plática comunes para los alumnos.
Aunque la atención se concentrará en el desarrollo del lenguaje académico, concentración principal, al tiempo que los niños aprenden los unos de los otros y se enseñan entre ellos, tanto los hispanohablantes como los angloparlantes desarrollarán habilidades conversacionales en ambos idiomas.
On what curriculum and programs will ABS’s academics be based?
Appleton Bilingual School will use the Appleton Area School District’s core curriculum.
Content will be presented in both Spanish and English. However, what is taught in one language will not be translated and “retaught” in the other. Rather, instructors will create comprehension “bridges” between Spanish and English by using proven bilingual strategies.
Proficiency in both languages will be developed in the same way one’s native language evolves - through visuals, gestures, chorale repetition, songs, and chants. Once developed, oral language skills will provide the basis for reading and writing literacy.
Multiple instructional strategies that embrace divergent learning styles and skills will be used, including:
Total Physical Response (TPR) An approach to learning that uses gestures and body language responses to help students connect with unfamiliar vocabulary in a natural way.
Language Experience Approach (LEA) An instructional strategy that creates common experiences and therefore common discussion topics for students.
While academic language development is the primary focus, as children teach and learn from each other, both Spanish and English speakers will develop conversational skills in both languages.
